Verbrande Berg Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Huab Basin. Named after the Verbrande Berg (Afrikaans/Dutch for "Burnt Mountain") in Damaraland, northwestern Namibia.

Lithology and Thickness
Up to approximately 35 meters thick. It consists of fining-upward cycles of coarse- to fine-grained point-bar sandstones, interbedded with dark carbonaceous shales, mudstones, and thin coal seams.

Lower contact
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by the massive, braided fluvial sandstones of the Tsarabis Fm.
Regional extent
Lower Ecca Group equivalent (Namibia).

Fossils
Highly rich in plant fossils, particularly the Glossopteris flora (including well-preserved leaves, wood, and root structures), which provided the abundant organic material necessary to form the basin's coal seams. (Horsthemke, E., Ledendecker, S., & Porada, H. (1990)

Continental, meandering river systems and heavily vegetated, swampy floodplains (paludal environments).
